Below are some of the basic coin terms you will need to know to navigate this site:
Obverse
The front side of the coin. This side often contains the image of a president, King/Queen, or other important figure.
Reverse
The front side of the coin. This side often contains the image of a president, King/Queen, or other important figure.
Mint Mark
This is a small mark, usually in the form of a letter, which is somewhere on the coin to indicate which mint produced the coin.
Bullion
Coins (or items such as bars, ingots, etc), made of a precious medal (silver, gold, platinum, etc), whose value is based on the precious medal content.
Proof
Proof coins are highly clean and polished coins. These coins are created using dedicated dies and dedicated coin planchets, which are highly polished. Due to the care in creating these coins, the images on the coin often appear frosted, while the background appears mirror-like.
Planchet
A round metallic disk that is ready to be struck into a coin. Also known as a blank.
